Why Would my Urine be Fluorescent Colored?

February 25, 2021 by Kristy

I have not been feeling, right.  I made an appointment with my Naturopathic doctor.  She is amazing.  One of the things she said I needed was B vitamins.  She put me on a B- Complex and a chewable B-12 regimen for 30 days to see if I am lacking in that.

On Day 2 of taking these supplements, I had something really, really weird happen.  So let me tell you something, I drink water.  I drink water with meals, I drink water without meals.  I drink water in the car, I even take water to church.  Seriously I can’t get enough of the stuff.  With drinking this much water, my urine is pretty much clear and odorless.  On the second day of taking the B Complex vitamins, my urine looked like Mountain Dew.  Ya, it was fluorescent yellowish green.  It was really strange and quite disturbing.

I did what I normally do and brushed it off.  Then the next morning, exactly the same thing.  I said to my Hubby, “ummm maybe I need to go back to the doctor because fluorescent isn’t normal!”  He then reminded me that I just started taking new supplements.  “Duh”.  Anyway I have one more day left of the B Complex Vitamins.

What I have noticed is that overall I am a lot happier.  My sleep is much more restful and for the majority of the time my stomach hasn’t hurt and I am actually kind of nice and I am not feeling sorry for myself.  Those are all awesome improvements that most people would benefit from.

What exactly do B Complex vitamins do anyhow?  Most B Complex vitamins consist of B1 (Thiamine), B2 (Riboflavin), B3 (Niacin), B5 (Pantothenic acid), B6 (Pyridoxine), B7 (Biotin), B9 (Folate) and B12 (Cobalamin).  A lot of the individual things that the B vitamins do is help convert food & nutrients into energy and help to restore cell growth, brain function and DNA.  All very vital and important things.

How do you naturally get B vitamins?  The majority of people that eat a wide range of foods generally CAN get enough B vitamins from their diets.  Meats, cheeses, seeds, leafy greens and beans are usually great at providing B vitamins.  However sometimes your body may not be able to absorb the nutrients because of whatever your body may be going through.  Which is what my problem was.  I am excited to see if taking B Complex for a month has helped my body the way that I feel like it has.
